The Central Coast Academy of Sport has celebrated the induction of new athletes into the CCAS summer programs with a re-vamped Orientation Program held at Mingara Recreation Club recently.

Four sports, AFL, Basketball, Golf and Hockey were all in attendance at Mingara to hear from Councillor Chris Burke on the support provided to the CCAS by Central Coast Council, Mark Tipple the CCAS Programs & Communications Coordinator on the content of programs and why the CCAS is a leader in athlete development.  Finally, Andrew McNee the CCAS Events Manager on a number of special inclusions for a number of sports.

In all, close to ninety (90) athletes were inducted to the CCAS summer programs and a great level of excitement was evident in the Mingara Showroom.

Mark Tipple said of the evening: “It was a first for us to be able to induct multiple sports on one evening, the ‘feel’ in the room was fantastic, it’s a really exciting time for these athletes and we were pleased to be able to deliver this type of orientation for them. In the past sports were inducted individually, to induct four sports on one evening was important so that athletes realise they are a part of something bigger.  The CCAS is more than just the sport they are involved with”.

Hockey is a new inclusion to the CCAS and the twenty (20) athletes selected to the squad will be trailblazers as they start their program next week, all summer programs will conclude at the 2018 ClubsNSW Academy Games scheduled for late April in Newcastle.  Also in a first, the CCAS has reached down into a younger age with the introduction of boys AFL.  A pilot program aimed at underpinning the highly successful Swans Academy.  Basketball and Golf are well established programs and they get underway with official training starting next week.
