DECEMBER 4-6th is a weekend to look out for with the Australian All Schools Track and Field Championships to be held in Canberra this year at the AIS Athletics Track.

Every year the best school-aged track and field athletes picked by their state and territory member associations are invited to the All Schools Championships with the hope of becoming the national champion. This year the CCAS are lucky enough to have 3 athletes from the 2016/17 CCAS Athletics Squad competing in the championship; Tyler Gunn, Katie Gunn and Bethany Kranendonk.

Each of the three CCAS athletes have excelled in their chosen disciplines with Tyler qualifying in the U18 400m and 800m finals, Katie in the U14 long jump and triple jump finals and Bethany Kranendonk featuring in the U18 long jump final.

The competition serves as an outstanding opportunity for all participating athletes to compete at a high level hoping to break their personal bests and to help set the tone for the 2017 Australian Athletics Championships to be held in Sydney in March 2017.

Earlier this year at the 2XU NSW All Schools Championships, we saw Tyler finishing 1st in the U17 400m and 800m finals, smashing his personal best times (48.07’, 1-55.05’) along with Katie also placing 1st in the U13 long jump final with a personal best of 5.11m and Bethany just missing out on 1st place with a count back in the U16 long jump final making 5.45m.

Mick Kranendonk, CCAS athletics squad manager, said of the athletes’ preparation: “All training sessions are going to plan and the athletes are getting ready for a peak performance just in time for the championships.

This is Bethany’s third National All-Schools; and even though it is Tyler and Katie’s first time at the championships all of them are extremely excited to be involved in such a high level of competition representing not only their schools but also the state of New South Wales.”

We wish Tyler, Katie and Bethany the best of luck in their final weeks of preparation as they set themselves up to make their mark on the national scale of track and field.
