THE Central Coast Academy of Sport Cycling squad has travelled to Goulburn for the 2016 Goulburn Workers Junior Tour.
Four members of the CCAS Cycling squad – CCAS 2015 Male Athlete of the Year Tom Lynch, Aryton Gilbert, Lincoln Hey, and Elizabeth Huggins – made the trip down to the NSW Southern Highlands for the 2016 Goulburn Workers Junior 2 Day Tour. The competition took place on Saturday, 28th May, and Sunday, 29th May, and consisted of four stages: Prologue, Road Race, Time Trial, and concluded with a final stage Road Race.
The first day of competition on Saturday commenced with the first two stages hosted in Breadalbane. The day opened with the Prologue, followed by the stage two Road Race. This race sees riders push through a tough, undulating and windy course. The U15 riders travelled a 35km distance course, while the U17s rode a total distance of 45km.
Day two of competition saw the cyclists move out to Gunning for the third and fourth stages of the tour. Kicking off with a short 5km Time Trial, the riders prepared themselves for the final stage Road Race. For this course, the U15 competitors went through a 32km course, while the U17s riders pushed on for a grueling 67km ride. This stage proved to be an incredibly tough challenge, as the course ended with a demanding 2km uphill sprint to the finish line.
Damon Scarfe, Coach of the CCAS Cycling squad, stated that “the team have shown some great early season form in the build up to the Goulburn tour, and I’m confident of seeing some solid performances.” This statement is reflected by the top-quality results achieved over the course of the weekend by our CCAS Cyclists, who all put in sensational performances:

Lincoln Hey, JM15 Div 1: 3rd – Stage 1 Time Trial, 8th Stage 4 Road Race, 5th – General Classification (Overall)
