THE Central Coast Academy of Sport Mingara One Swimming Squad has attended their first Education Session at The Glen.

On Wednesday afternoon, 25th May, the Mingara One CCAS Swimming Squad undertook their Drug and Alcohol Education Session, hosted by Joe Coyte and the friendly staff at The Glen Centre. The Glen is the only ‘Male specific’ Central Coast Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centre. The Glen sees Indigenous, and also Non-Indigenous males, come through their rehabilitation program. The Glen is an organisation that is proud to be breaking down the barriers between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians, and working towards reconciliation, as well as their core role of alcohol and drug rehabilitation.

The Mingara One CCAS Swimming squad was able to see a different perspective of life, illustrated through the life stories shared by members of The Glen program. The four speakers – Glen, Jake, Cameron and Karl – spoke of the turmoil they faced, and how Drugs & Alcohol severely impacted on their lives. They conveyed a strong message to the squad, and their personal stories truly gave an insight of how difficult life can be while battling with an addiction.

After telling their stories of struggle, it was excellent to learn how The Glen has given these speakers a new lease on life, and how much of a positive impact the rehabilitation process has had on them. This education session was an incredible opportunity for the squad, as they were able to learn through other people’s life experiences just how destructive drugs and alcohol can be on not only the individual, but also to others around them.

A huge Thank You to Glen, Jake, Cameron and Karl from The Glen, who devoted their time for this session and were willing to share their personal experiences.
