MARCH 2021, Coast Sport is a highly valued Platinum Partner of the Central Coast Academy of Sport and with restrictions around CV-19 being further relaxed this has meant Coast Sport Staff are regular visitors to the many CCAS sporting programs. Team and individual sporting programs are being supported by Coast Sport with Functional Movement Screening (FMS) protocols.

Coast Sport is an emerging sports science agency who are making the CCAS programs more robust, the FMS will help shape an athlete’s physical development.  Sport in many instances is seeking outcomes simply around athlete performance and this at times is at the detriment of a targeted approach by working with the athlete to identify aspects that will correct functional movement patterns.

FMS is a critical element of the CCAS, as movement patterns play an important part in the general health and wellbeing of athletes.  Functional movement patterns are closely aligned to our lifestyle and if we are able to correct any functional patterns the athlete will have a far more comprehensive knowledge of the interaction between health and fitness.

Matt Cranney, the founder and Director of Coast Sport is a specialist in the field of Musculoskeletal Physiology said of the FMS, “The FMS is a way to get the athletes learning about how their bodies move and perform. This FMS is targeted towards identifying potential areas that could be at risk of injury, but also areas that could be targeted for performance enhancement. Coast Sport are delighted to be able to offer this level of support to the Central Coast Academy of Sport.”

Robyn Low-Hart, the CCAS Programs Manager said of the interaction of FMS to the many sporting programs currently under way “It is a great benefit to all of the programs to have the expertise and support of Coast Sport.  Utilizing the FMS testing as a tool to identify those athletes that are at risk of injury will help to keep the athletes doing what they love – playing sport. Areas that require attention are highlighted in the FMS process and Coast Sport designs a program around addressing these imbalances.”
