Basketball

2024/25

The 2023/24 Program is currently running. Nominations for the 2024/25 Program will open in August.

The Central Coast Academy of Sport basketball program is supported by Central Coast Granite and provides a unique opportunity for local basketball players looking to gain further individual skill development and competition opportunities that will assist them in their chances of gaining future state team selection and higher honours.

The Central Coast Granite Basketball program runs annually from October (trials) to April (representative Basketball off season) with regular squad training sessions focused on individual skill development. Team elements are introduced leading into competition opportunities such as Inter-Academy Camp and the annual Your Local Club Academy Games, which conclude the program each year in April.

In addition to on-court training sessions and competition opportunities, athletes receive access to sport science testing and educational seminars to assist with their personal development off the basketball court.

The Central Coast Academy of Sport basketball program ‘sits’ between local representative basketball and higher order representation such as NSW State Country Team selection.

The Academy program exists to up-skill athletes and assist them in progressing to higher representation in the sport of basketball.

The Academy uses the FTEM Model of athlete development and the CCAS basketball program generally sits around the ‘T1’ – ‘T2’ level within the FTEM Model of athlete development.  This program is endorsed by BNSW as a ‘step’ in the BNSW athlete pathway. Athletes interested in applying for the NNSW SPP program and are successful in gaining selection may be eligible to join the CCAS basketball program.

A program levy (+GST) is applied to this program, basketball scholarship athletes receive a minimum of 35 hours on-court training, skill development, education, personal development and opportunities to represent the Central Coast Academy of Sport at events.

The above program fee covers the full cost of participation and a CCAS merchandise kit.

Athletes will also receive a 20% discount on all CCAS Clothing purchases. Various other discounts include preferred appointments and 10% discount at Coast Sport and discounted pricing for Victor Sports and Water to Go. Each scholarship athlete will also receive a family ticket (4 pax) to the CCAS Annual Awards Evening.

An additional tour fee (Cost TBC) relates to the annual Your Local Club Academy Games tour and the Annual Squad Tour (TBC)

The program is open to male and female basketball players from bottom age under-14s (12-years) to top age under-16s (15-years) who are registered with a Basketball NSW affiliated association (Central Coast Waves or Gosford City Rebels) competing in the NSW Country Championship League (CCL) or NSW Eastern Junior League (EJL).

Athletes must be residents of the NSW Central Coast region and a current financial member of both their Local Association and Basketball NSW.

The CCAS Central Coast Granite Basketball Program is a program endorsed by Basketball NSW.  The program is part of the BNSW athlete pathway and includes athletes in the Developing Athlete Program (DAP) and State Performance Plan (SPP).  For further clarity, athletes who are selected to the State Performance Plan (SPP) are eligible for the CCAS program.

The Central Coast Academy of Sport holds selection trials in October each year to identify and select scholarship athletes, who then commence the program mid October with the Summer Sports Programs as the program start point.

Selection trials are advertised and promoted through local junior representative basketball programs and applications are available online through the CCAS website.
