Tim Hudson- Mentor Coach Basketball

When it comes to the sport of basketball Tim Hudson has very few peers with a resume like his own.  The ‘Our People Series’ has shown that experience is a common factor for coaches involved with the Central Coast Academy of Sport, Tim is certainly no exception to this rule.

Tim Hudson’s 38 years of experience in the sport, yes that’s right 38 years, is another great example that experience in a sport builds knowledge and knowledge certainly contributes to a persons’ competency in coaching.  Tim Hudson is a highly proficient and capable coach.  Tim’s 30 years of involvement with representative basketball is certainly un-matched on the Central Coast, within those 30 years, he has played professionally, coached professionally and held a number of high profile vocational roles that have all built a resume of incredible experience, experience now passed onto athletes of the Central Coast.

Tim Hudson was a technically gifted player, he played for a number of NBL teams including the West Sydney Razorbacks (2004-05), Hunter Pirates (2003-04) and Sydney Kings (2002-03), Tim won an NBL Championship with the Sydney Kings in 2003 coached by Brian Goorjian, a name synonymous with success in the sport.  Tim is regarded as one the best shooters of a basketball in NSW, in 2003 he was the leading scorer in the NSW Basketball Championship level competition.  Tim contributes many hours in a volunteer capacity through his contribution to the Central Coast Academy of Sport and his daughters home club the Central Coast Rebels where he is a household name.

Tim’s coaching philosophy is built on an athlete first model, a model where he is focused on empowerment, giving athletes the tools to develop highly proficient fundamental skills and in turn success.  As a highly competitive player he looks at success relative to every circumstance, he takes great pride in providing an environment where the athlete can have fun while enjoying the experience he is certainly not just focused on winning.  Tim’s coaching system is underpinned by a platform of enjoyment, his focus on having fun in an enjoyable environment is why so many parents want their children coached by Tim Hudson.  Success will always find its own level, but ‘high tide’ will be reached when kids want to train because they enjoy the experience.

When Tim reflects on his time with the Central Coast Academy of Sport, he makes the following observation:

The Central Coast Academy of Sport has been a special place to contribute. At the very heart of the CCAS philosophy, I find it entails a very holistic approach that embraces the athletes at a personal level while empowering them with high energy, expertise and engagement.  Its great being a part of such a system that delivers a much larger component of development than your average representative program.  Its very nature has been fun and heartwarming to me personally, particularly given the long-term benefits for the kids.’

Like others in the Our People Series Tim reflects on where he sees the game going and where his involvement will be found:

‘Having experienced the game at a professional level as a player, coach, executive and now as an NBA scout, I would love to become an investor / director in a professional sporting franchise.  Though above that, my greatest ambition in basketball is being the best Dad I can be to my kids as they grow their own love for the game. That is where I am probably learning the most’.

Congratulations and thanks to Tim Hudson for his support of the CCAS and the many local athletes who have been supported by his genuine care and commitment to the sport of basketball.  There is no doubt one should keep an eye out for the names, Brydie, Keira and Mabel Hudson, three young ladies who will have unparalleled support by one of this regions most qualified and trusted coaches.
