Hockey Through An Athlete’s Eyes

OCTOBER: The Central Coast Academy of Sport (CCAS) allowed me to have the opportunity to do work experience in their organisation. I choose to do my work experience at Central Coast Academy of Sport because I am currently enrolled in the CCAS UAA Hockey Program that CCAS offers and was interested in what goes into making these programs so successful.

I have been wanting to go further with my hockey, and advance up the hockey pathway. I found what I was doing at home to help myself was not enough. I had heard of what CCAS offers and how it helps athletes improve. So, I thought why not find out a little bit more about CCAS during my week of work experience. I did learn more about CCAS, not just what they offer but how much effort goes into these sport programs to make them run smoothly and successfully.

This year there has been a huge growth in the Girls UAA Hockey Program. From only having 1 girl enrolled in the program last year, to 10 girls this year and being able to take 2 teams (boys and girls) away this year to Your Local Club Academy Games. I am looking forward to the experience that I am going to gain from going to Your Local Club Academy Games, but also to see the improvement I have gained from going to the training sessions and fitness classes that Central Coast Academy of Sport provides for athletes.

Robyn Low-Hart the CCAS Programs Manager said: “It is very exciting to see the growth in numbers in the CCAS UAA Hockey Program this year. In particular, the growth in the girls program. It is very rewarding to give the girls in the program the experiences that Mackenzie has spoken about and allow them to follow their sporting aspirations. Mackenzie has spent this week in our office, a very busy week with two very popular sports programs in trials. Mackenzie has witnessed the process of administration that takes place to deliver these trials and has helped to prepare for the upcoming Group Orientation”.

My final comment “This is my first year in the CCAS UAA Hockey Program, I am very pleased that the girls were able to get a team together, allowing me to compete in Your Local Club Academy Games, and take part in the program that CCAS provides. I am very grateful to have the opportunity of work experience at CCAS, and I now have a better understanding of the roles in Sports Administration”
