The Central Coast Academy of Sport (CCAS) Greater Bank Netball athletes have successfully competed in the Academy Challenge long weekend in Orange, NSW. The event combined a two day inter-academy competition with an added ‘challenge day’. This day allowed athletes from across twelve academies to be mixed into teams which then competed against each other.
Netball NSW coaches, selectors and mentors attended the event to observe, educate and upskill academy athletes, coaches and umpires. Twelve academies from across the state of NSW attended the event bringing close to 300 junior netballers together for the three day challenge.
Jess Morgan the Head Coach for the CCAS Netball squad said of the tour: “Success presents itself in many different ways. This weekend it presented itself in the way of individual player development, overcoming challenges and building of new friendships. I was so proud to look across the courts during the Challenge Day to see all of our CCAS netball athletes playing fantastic netball. For me as a coach of this program, that in itself is success. If I have instilled some of the vital skills and behaviors necessary to carry them through the pathway, then I have succeeded, and they have succeeded by implementing them on and off the court.”
The Academy Challenge also presented a great opportunity for the CCAS Netball Umpires. Three umpires were selected to attend and played a vital role over the three days.
Karlee Farthing, CCAS Netball Umpires Coach said of the weekend: “I am thrilled to say that the CCAS umpires had an extremely successful weekend and I am very proud of the way the three umpires performed over the weekend. The Academy Challenge is designed to allow athletes to challenge themselves and develop friendships with athletes from other academies and this was no different for our umpires. They created great bonds with umpires from other academies, showing great support and encouragement for each other.”
The CCAS would like to thank WRAS and NNSW for hosting this great event. The CCAS squad can’t wait for 2020!
