Basketball Trials Extremely Popular

OCTOBER The Central Coast Academy of Sport (CCAS) held two trials for the Central Coast Granite Basketball program and the numbers seeking to trial hit record numbers.  The Basketball program is structured to align with the FTEM development pathway of Basketball NSW and the interest shown by athletes seeking to gain entry to the program is the highest in the history of the Academy. High numbers trialing has caused the CCAS staff reason to both celebrate the relevance of their work and also dauted for the coaches’ tasked with whittling the seventy plus trialists down to a workable squad number.

The 2019-20 program promises to be another high standard sub-elite sporting program, further demonstrating the importance of the work done throughout regional NSW by the RASi network.  It is anticipated that across the Regional Academies of Sport some 250 athletes will gain access to this step of the Basketball NSW pathway.  The Central Coast Academy of Sport will offer thirty six (36) positions with an equal split for boys and girls when the program hits the courts in late October.

Robyn Low-Hart the CCAS Programs Manager having witnessed the intake procedure for the Basketball program said: “It is a real eye opener to see how thorough the intake is for this program, having been involved in Triathlon it is very different due to the numbers involved. The coaches were fully engaged in the two-step trial process and the deliberations following both the first and the second trial was good to witness, I’ve gained a real appreciation of the thoroughness of the discussions and how the final squad was constituted.  The final make-up of the boys and girls squads when announced will be done with considerable thought and concern for all involved.  I know the quality of the coaches often sets programs up for success and I’ve no doubt the Basketball program will be highly successful when it commences at the group orientation on Tuesday 29th October.”

Will Granger the Program Head Coach made comment: “The program comes around very quickly and following the incredible success of the last program. The coaches can’t wait to get their teeth into the new program.  I’m sure the squad chosen will be very pleased with the plans looking ahead and the decisions on the actual make-up of the squad was very competitive, congratulations to those selected”.
