CONGRATULATIONS to Matthew Dawson for just being named to represent the Australian Kookaburras at the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janerio.

Dawson was a scholarship athlete at the Central Coast Academy of Sport where he was recognised as the future of Australian hockey. In the 2008/09 season the academy announced Dawson as the Male Athlete of the Year to acknowledge his passion, dedication and ability in his chosen sport.

Following his success at the Academy, Dawson became a member of the Australian U21s team, the Burras. He experienced great success in the 2013 Junior World Cup with the team, which ultimately helped with his selection for the Kookaburras.

The Olympics will be held in Rio during August this year where Dawson along with six others will make their debut for the Kookaburras.

The Kookaburras will play their first pool match against New Zealand on the 7th of August at 12am AEST.

Trish Dawson a very proud and excited mum said of Matt’s selection; “It’s so exciting to have watched his development and to be announced as one of sixteen players heading to Rio means his hard work has been rewarded with this selection. To play with Mark Knowles who has been such a mentor for Matt will provide another highlight to his Olympic experience”.

Good luck to Matthew and the rest of the Kookaburras squad as they begin their campaign for the gold medal.

The Central Coast Academy of Sports would like to thank and acknowledge the support received from the following Business Partners:
