The Central Coast Academy of Sport (CCAS) Greater Bank Netball program was launched on Wednesday 27th January at Mingara Recreation Club, where the 22 selected athletes were presented with what to expect from this year’s program.

The CCAS Athletes heard from staff and coaches about the various elements of the program. Chris Portlock (Coast Sport Physiotherapist) then ran all the athletes through an activation warm up developed by the Australian Diamonds Netball team before the girls headed into a start of season Functional Movement Screening.

Head Coach of the CCAS Greater Bank Netball Program, Jessica Morgan said of the opening session: ” It was so great to see our new and returning netball squad members at orientation on Wednesday night. Coast Sport led the squad through a functional movement screening, which is an integral component of their athletic profile. Looking around the room, it was clear that we are in for an exciting year ahead. We have some exceptional talent coming through the ranks and the coaching staff are eager to get out on court in the coming weeks to start our on court training sessions.”

Robyn Low-Hart, the CCAS Programs Manager said of the orientation session: “After a challenging year it is exciting to see so many enthusiastic Netball athletes in a face to face orientation. Starting the program with a Functional Screening and take home strength program will help to keep the athletes robust and less prone to injury – keeping them on the court! I am looking forward to watching the Netball Squad develop their skills over the course of the program and show case their talent at Academy Games.”

Two teams will be named from this squad to compete in the upcoming 2021 Your Local Club Academy Games, which is being held in the Newcastle region in April. With the 2020 Academy Games having to be cancelled due to COVID-19 all athletes (and coaches!) are really looking forward to this weekend of competition.

Greater Bank will once again take on the major sponsorship of the netball program, continuing its long-standing association with the Central Coast Academy of Sport. Head of Marketing and Customer Experience, Matt Hingston, said the partnership is about more than just providing a financial benefit to the Academy and athletes.

“Greater Bank is proud to continue our long-standing support of the Central Coast Academy of Sport’s Netball Program. Supporting the communities that support us is the foundation Greater Bank has been built on. Now more than ever we are thrilled to be able to assist this home-grown talented group of athletes as they continue to work towards their sporting goals following the major, yet necessary, disruptions we’ve seen over the past 12 months.”
