The Central Coast Academy of Sport is delighted to report on the outstanding golf by members of the CCAS Callaway Golf Program at the recently held JNJG International Sub Junior Classic at Stonebridge Golf Course in the Hunter Valley at Cessnock.

The tournament is the brainchild of Australian golfing stalwart, Jack Newton, and provides a competitive environment for the most promising talent from right around the globe. Whilst the majority of the field was be made up of NSW / ACT JNJG members, coming from every corner of New South Wales, the tournament has a distinct international flavour to it with 27 players from Canada, New Zealand, Hawaii, Thailand, China, Indonesia, South Korea and Japan making their way to the Hunter Valley to participate in the tournament. Throw in 85 of the best players Australia wide from every State and Territory outside of NSW and the ACT, and it’s fair to say the tournament is one of the strongest Junior Events in Australia. The Central Coast athletes performed exceptionally well.

Riley Millers from Gosford Golf Club aged 10 played up 2 age divisions to win the Under 12 boys net by a massive 15 shots, with a very impressive 26 under par. Well under his handicap with a net 66, 61,61 and 74. Such a quick improvement in Riley’s game already and extends from the coaching and experience of the Central Coast Academy of Sport and Encourage Shield Teams, with massive support and encouragement from all his new and older golfing friends.

Braith Hyde from Kooindah Waters setup his Under 13 net victory in the 3rd Round with a solid 64 net to end up 12 under par and 8 shots clear of his Sydney competition.

Annika Boyd from Toukley held onto win the girls under 14 net. Consistency in the final 3 rounds secured the victory from a very strong field from Queensland, NT, ACT, South Australia.

Jye Crowe from Shelly Beach secured a close 2nd place on a count back in the boys under 14 net. Round 3 was the pick of the rounds with a net 66. Only 2 shots separated 1st and second place, whilst it could have been on 18 across the water if there was a better bounce.

The Central Coast Academy of Sport was well represented, all players showed great sportsmanship and really encouraged and supported each other in the testing and tiring conditions and especially helped young Riley over line in his first ever JNJGF tournament after such a long exhausting 4 days for the Year 4 Student.

The Central Coast Academy of Sports would like to thank and acknowledge the support received from the following Business Partners:

NSW Government, The University of Newcastle, Mingara Recreation Club, Greater Bank, NBN Television, Oddball Marketing, Southern Cross Austereo (101.3 Sea FM and 107.7 2GO), Central Coast Council.
